| The FreeShip
modelling kernel is purely based on subdivision surfaces. It uses
a mixture of loop subdivision and Catmull Clark subdivision surfaces
called quad-triangle subdivision. This enables the user to design
the most complex surfaces with only one surface. Controlpoints can
be added in areas only where they are needed. Holes and knuckle-lines
are easily incorporated. The number of controlpoints may be drastically
reduced compared to classical NURB surface modelling. Intersectionlines
such as stations, buttocks and waterlines may be added to the model
and are updated realtime when a controlpoint is being dragged. Adjustable
precision by controlling the subdivision level. An Integrated shading
engine provides stable software rendering without the need for 3rd
party software or dll’s. |

| Some
very interesting and rare piece of software tools for calculating
the shell penetration on the naval armor plates. |
|
| The
University of Michigan software environment for the conceptual
design of displacement type ships. This collection of software has
been developed over the years to support the teaching of conceptual
ship design within the undergraduate curriculum of the Department
of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The following programs
are available free: Power Prediction Program (PPP), Propeller Optimization
Program (POP), Maneuvering Prediction Program (MPP) , Seakeeping Prediction
Program (SPP) and Gear Sizing Program (GSP. |
|
| Autolaunch
offers absolutely free of charge software to assist with the logic
of how best to cut anything from either a stock length (lineal - length)
or rectangular sheet (area nesting of rectangular panes from larger
stock sheets). It doesn't matter what the product is that you need
to cut, you simply use a material description that best suits you
needs. Define the simple rules and you are away. |
|
| Curve
Generator 1.2 Beta is free for personal use. You can copy to clipboard
and then Edit -> Paste in Rhino. Win32 executable. Requires OpenGL
drivers. |
|
| Magvar
Magnetic variation and great circle course calculator MagVar computes
and displays magnetic variation for anywhere in the world between
60 deg. N and 80 deg. S. This version is functionaly identical to
the applet displayed in Almanac On-Line but written as a stand alone
program to run on your own computer. |
|
| XTide;
a free tide prediction software that uses full harmonic method. Windows
and Unix versions available. |
|
| Minos
If you're looking for full-function solid modeling capabilities in
a freeware software, look no further. Minos delivers world-class solid
modeling in an, easy-to-learn, easy-to-use package. MINOS extends
the capabilities of your existing 2D-or 3D-wireframe-based systems,
so you can take advantage of all the benefits solid modeling offers
right away. |
|
| Blender;
a very capable, 3D modeling, rendering and animation software for
free! |
|
| WireSizer2.0
gradually developed from a spreadsheet program to this version written
in Visual Basic 3.0. The intent of WireSizer 2.0 is to facilitate
the design of a marine electrical system in accordance with Standards
and Recommended Practices for Small Craft of the American Boat and
Yacht Council and NFPA 302 Fire Protection Standard for Pleasure and
Commercial Motor Craft 1994 Edition. WireSizer 2.0 calculates the
appropriate wire size with regard to the current load and circuit
length. |
|
| HullDrag/32
is a new application that estimates the resistance of a sailing yacht's
hull. The following six resistance categories are calculated: Hull
frictional resistance, keel frictional resistance, rudder frictional
resistance, heeling resistance, residuary resistance, surface roughness
resistance. HullDrag/32 processes hull description files that define
round bilge ( or similar ) sailing yachts. |
|
| Hullform6S
DOS based freeware version of Hullform design software for amateurs
and students. |
|
| CareneCAD
is a software package developed by Robert Laine; for designing hard
chinned boat hull to be constructed in plywood or sheet metal. CareneCAD
software provide you with the exact development of all panels in flat
sheets. Carene CAD allow you to save the line offsets and developed
panels in files for export to a 3D CAD software. |
|
| CarlsonDesign
a simple, interactive, visual 3-d hull design Windows program for
modeling and developing panels for plywood or metal chine construction.
Find Center of Buoyancy, Center of Lateral Area, Length Waterline,
and righting moment (pitched or heeled) among other calculations.
Create patterns for stem, stern, bulkheads, up to 6 chines, and up
to 8 frames for construction. Includes a 3, 4, or 5 sheet nesting
and hand-plotting capability and output to VRML, DXF, HPGL, or Carlson
plotters. Includes sample designs and Word 6.0 manual. |
|
| SailcutCAD
are sail design and plot software packages developed by Robert Laine;.
SailcutCAD allows you to draw and visualize your own sail and compute
the accurate development of all panels in flat sheets. These packages
can be downloaded freely from the download section of this site for
evaluation purposes. Latest Versions: Sailcut 4.09; classical sails,
Sailcut 6.08 Spinnakers, Sailcut 8.05 Chinese Junk sail. |
|
| Bearboat
is Robert Livingston's hull design program. It may aid you in designing
your own kayak, canoe or rowboat. There are also links here to a drag
prediction spreadsheet. |
|
| Planing
hull resistance and propulsion with surface propellers. This is
the program developed at Arneson Marine, and it was used to estimate
performance of new and existing planing hull designs with Arneson
Surface Drives. The program is a little obsolete and a little clunky
- you can tell that not much attention was paid to a slick user interface,
because it was originally written only for in-house use. The program
was written in QuickBasic. |
